Dattes Barhi

Our Barhi dates are cultivated in Saudi Arabia, in Qassim, a province with a desert climate.
The Barhi date is very common in the Middle East, where it is mainly consumed crisp at the beginning of the season, during July or August.
TAYIBA offers fresh Barhi dates with a very soft, moist, and even creamy texture. These small-sized dates visually resemble small mirabelle plums.
Very moist, they contain a lot of water, making them highly appreciated in hot weather or at the end of fasting. They have an amber color and develop sweet, naturally sugary flavors in the mouth, with a subtle hint of sugarcane. The name “Barhi” comes from the Arabic word barh, meaning “hot wind,” which is essential for the proper production of these dates.

Our Barhi dates are cultivated in Saudi Arabia, in Qassim, a desert-climate province renowned as the land of fruits.
They are sold unpitted and without added sugar. Harvest takes place between late August and early September, a short period during which we carry out a careful selection of the fruits.
Indeed, Barhi dates are very moist, making them sensitive to heat and delicate to the touch. They are small taste gems that require care and attention.

Expert Advice

How to Choose

Barhi dates range in color from light beige to golden. Their flesh is moist, fine, honeyed, and caramelized. Their skin is light and smooth. The riper they are, the more they develop a brown coloration.

Tasting Idea

The Barhi date is a true delight and can be enjoyed as is, as a healthy snack before or after exercise, or at the end of a meal. Very flavorful, it is also ideal for breaking your fast. It pairs wonderfully with a glass of milk.

Storage

TAYIBA offers Barhi dates of the “routab” category, meaning they are harvested very moist, before full ripening. This gives them their incomparable softness and moist texture. However, they deteriorate when exposed to prolonged heat, developing a fermentation-like odor. Barhi dates must be stored in deep cold to preserve their moisture and freshness. Afterward, they can be displayed under normal refrigeration for a few days. They can be kept in the fridge (between 4–8°C) in their original airtight packaging for about a week, depending on their moisture level.
